| Brenda
M. Amodei, MA, CPSS has worked in the field of substance abuse for over 20
years. Her recent accomplishments have been in the area of environmental prevention
strategies. She was a lead advocate for successful state legislation, including
responsible alcohol server training, social host liability and keg registration.
Currently, she serves as the Project Director for a Training, Technical Assistance,
and Evaluation Services Center, housed at the Pacific Institute for Research and
Evaluation (PIRE). In addition, she is a member of the RI Board for the Certification
of Chemical Dependency Professionals. Richard M. Bailey, M.Ed., LCDCS,
ACRPS is Director of The Providence Center's Long Term Care program, a program
specializing in the treatment of chronic relapsers. Mr. Bailey received his Masters
degree in Counseling Psychology from Cambridge College in 1992. He is a Licensed
Chemical Dependency Clinical Supervisor and Advanced Relapse Prevention Specialist,
gaining certification from Terrence T. Gorski and The Cenaps Corporation, an internationally
recognized school of Relapse Prevention Training. Serving on the Rhode Island
Board for the Certification of Chemical Dependency Professionals as a CPM evaluator,
Mr. Bailey tests and evaluates Chemical Dependency Professionals for advanced
level certification and licensure. Thomas E. Broffman, Ph. D., LICSW,
LCDP, LCDS, CEAP is an assistant professor at Eastern CT State University,
BSW Program. He has a BSW and an MSW from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D.
from Boston College, Graduate School of Social Work. Dr. Broffman is the Dual
Diagnosis Coordinator at the RI Dept. of Mental Health & Retardation, Eleanor
Slater Hospital in Cranston, RI. He is a regionally-known trainer and consultant,
with over 30 years of experience in employee assistance programs, mental health,
addictions, problem gambling and co-occurring disorders. Dr. Broffman has been
a Motivational Interviewing practitioner, proponent and trainer for over 15 years,
and he was recently awarded the Social Worker of the Year in Addictions by the
RI Chapter of NASW. Louis A. Cerbo, Ed.D., CAS currently serves
as the Director of Psychology for the Eleanor Slater Hospital, Cranston, RI. Dr.
Cerbo is an adjunct faculty at the University of Rhode Island and Psychology Department
at Stonehill College. He was a forensic evaluator at Bridgewater State Hospital
with expertise in substance abuse evaluation among forensic assessments and currently
is a consultant to the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families, the US Marshall
Service and the Federal Probation Department. Sandra DelSesto, M.Ed.
has been a community planner, master trainer and program developer in alcohol
and other drug prevention for over 25 years. She is also a member of the prevention
committee of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium. In addition,
she has developed a number of successful programs including HIV prevention, school
health and programs that specifically address the needs of youth at risk.
Alfred L. Forbes, MBA is a Boston-based consultant with A.L. Forbes
Consulting Services. He has worked in various roles in the health service field
for over 15 years and conducted workshops nationally for the past 8 years.
Karen Friend, PhD, CPSS completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Brown
Medical School, a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Maryland and
BA in psychology (honors) from Yale University. She is currently a Research Scientist
at the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) and an Adjunct Assistant
Professor at the Brown Medical School, the University of Rhode Island Department
of Psychology, and the Rhode Island College Department of Psychology. Her research
expertise includes environmental approaches to reduce substance abuse and associated
harms, tobacco use and smoking cessation, treatment quality and health care access.
She has served as teacher, trainer, and mentor for the past 25 years in a variety
of academic and community settings Richard Froncillo, LCDS has
worked in the substance abuse treatment field for 25 years and is Executive Director
of Discovery House. He is a Certified Advanced Chemical Dependency Professional,
Licensed Chemical Dependency Supervisor and a CPM evaluator. Mr. Froncillo has
been involved in the certification process since 1977. Michael Gaudet,
LICSW, LCDP earned his undergraduate degree at Bridgewater State College and
his MSW from Rhode Island College in 1984. He is currently the Center Director
at Arbour Counseling Services, Rockland, MA. He has extensive clinical and supervision
experience in substance abuse treatment. Mr. Gaudet trains and consults across
the country on clinical and professional growth to/pics, and he is a faculty member
of the New England Institute of Addiction Studies since 1986. Anthony
M. Gonzalez, NYS, CASAC, BCRPS has over 20 years experience in the chemical
dependency treatment field and provides counseling services to substance-abusing
offenders within the New York State Department of Correctional Services. Mr. Gonzalez
is also a former Associate Trainer/Consultant for the Gorski/CENAPS Corporation,
and he has extensive expertise in supervising and training in a specialized Integrated
Criminal Thinking/Chemical Dependency Treatment Model. He is currently a Faculty
Member of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services,
Office of Professional Development and the New England Institute of Addiction
Studies Summer School. Barbara Inderlin, LICSW is an independently
licensed clinical social worker and is currently the Vice President of Special
Services at NRI Community Services (NRICS). From 2000 - 2001, Ms. Inderlin was
the Associate Director at the R.I. Department of Mental Health, Retardation and
Hospitals, Division of Behavioral Healthcare for Substance Abuse where she was
the designated State Substance Abuse Authority (SSA) for Rhode Island. She has
over 30 years administrative, clinical, consultation, training, policy, and advocacy
experience in the field of behavioral healthcare and was one of the first professionals
in Rhode Island to develop and implement an integrated treatment program within
the community mental health system for persons diagnosed with co-occurring disorders
of mental illness and substance abuse. J. Philip Kane joined
the staff of Thundermist Health Center in July 2004. He currently serves as the
Program Manager for the Title HIV Care Program. Philip has worked in the field
of HIV prevention for over 20 years. His interest in HIV began in 1987 when he
first volunteered at AIDS Project Rhode Island (the Project) as an AIDS Hotline
volunteer and a Buddy. He was later hired by the Project as the Rhode Island AIDS
Hotline Coordinator and was eventually promoted to Education Coordinator. After
leaving the Project in 2000, he joined the staff of Planned Parenthood of Rhode
Island where he coordinated marketing and communications. Philip is certified
in HIV pre-test and post-test counseling. He also conducts HIV trainings for a
number of community-based organizations, is a member of the Rhode Island Community
Planning Group for HIV Prevention and has served as its Community Co-Chair for
five years. Melanie Koehler, MS, RN, PCNS is in private practice
at Angell St. Psychiatry in East Greenwich and is a clinical instructor at the
University of Rhode Island, College of Nursing. Ms. Koehler also owns Koehler
Consulting, which provides various in-services to area agencies. Kevin
Kretchman, LCDP is the assistant administrator of Phoenix Programs of New
England's residential program in Exeter, Rhode Island and has worked in substance
abuse services for over seven years. Kevin is a certified crisis intervention
trainer through the Crisis Prevention Institute. Ray McGarty, MS,
LADC, LCS is currently the Executive Director of Southeastern NH Services.
He also has a long-standing private practice, primarily working with issues related
to trauma. He provides training, technical assistance, consultation and clinical
supervision to organizations throughout the United States. He has an extensive
background in addiction, holding positions such as Clinical Administrator of the
Betty Ford Center, and Executive Director of a number of addiction treatment facilities.
Glenn Miller, MS, CEAP, LCDP has been in the substance abuse field
since 1982. Mr. Miller has a master's degree in human services, is a certified
EAP and LCDP. He has held various administrative and clinical positions and is
on the faculty of the Institute of Labor Studies. Sharon Morello,
BSN, RN is a program administrator at the Providence Center. Formerly the
Chief of Treatment for the Dept. of Mental Health, Retardation and Hospital's
Div. of Substance Abuse for the State of Rhode Island, she has worked in the field
of addiction medicine since 1987. Sharon's clinical focus has been on the treatment
of opiate dependent patients with extensive experience in the management of acute
detoxification in a teaching hospital. Sharon is a CARF surveyor, participating
in the CSAT accreditation study of Methadone programs. Mary-K O'Sullivan,
MA, LMFT, LADC, LPC is a licensed professional counselor, marriage & family
therapist, and drug & alcohol counselor. She has served as the Director of The
Center, a behavioral health and addictions training organization. Ms. O'Sullivan
provides consultation regionally and nationally in criminal justice treatment
and rehabilitation, co-occurring disorders, women's issues in treatment and program
design. Frederic G. Reamer, Ph.D. is a professor in the graduate
program of the School of Social Work, RI College, where he has been on faculty
since 1983. Dr. Reamer is the author of many books and articles on professional
ethics and lectures nationally and internationally. He chaired the task force
that wrote the code of ethics of the National Association of Social Workers.
Elisa Robley, CAGS, MA, LMHC, LCDP, RCS is co-owner of Wellness Within,
LLC in Cranston, and provides private practice therapy for mental health and substance
abuse. She has 12 years of experience working with co-occurring diagnosis and
has been certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy since 2003 through Marsha Linehan's,
Behavioral Technology Transfer Group. She is a CMP evaluator for RIBCCDP, has
been employed at various local mental health agencies. She has worked with incarcerated
population at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections and worked as a Clinical
Director of a juvenile detention site and a paramilitary youth academy within
the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services. Jewel Sommerville,
D.Ac., Lic.Ac., M.A.O.M., Dipl.Ac. is the founder of Holistic Health Rhode
Island. Dr. Sommerville received her training in Acupuncture from the New England
School of Acupuncture, the oldest graduate school for the study of East Asian
Medicine (EAM) in the United States. She is licensed to practice EAM in both Massachusetts
and Rhode Island and earned the credential of Diplomate of Acupuncture from the
National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. In addition
to her clinical experience, Jewel worked in collaboration with Harvard Osher Institute
to design and implement research studies which examined the effectiveness of EAM;
she treated patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital as part of a study examining
the effectiveness of acupuncture with IBS. Dr. Sommerville annually teaches a
course on Traditional Chinese Medicine at Brown University as part of an elective
examining Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Prior to her work in Acupuncture,
Dr. Somerville worked in community mental health in Baltimore, Maryland.
Frank R. Sparadeo,
Ph.D. is a clinical Neuropsychologist in private practice. He specializes
in neuropsychological assessment, pain evaluation and management, pre-surgical
psychological screening and post-trauma psychotherapy. Dr. Sparadeo previously
served as the Neuropsychologist at RI Hospital where he developed the first outpatient
cognitive rehabilitation program in RI and conducted research studies on the role
of substance abuse in traumatic brain injury. He was the co-founder of the Brain
Injury Association of RI as well as co-director of the Concussion Center at RI
Hospital. Dr. Sparadeo also served as Chairman of the State Mental Health Plan
committee and is presently the Chairman of the Governor’s Permanent Advisory Council
on Traumatic Brain Injury. He continues to provide continuing education workshops
for psychologists, counselors, social workers and other professionals nationwide.
Gail Taylor has been in the field of prevention and healthy
youth development for 15 years. She has delivered a variety of prevention services
including workshops and training, curriculum development, prevention systems assessment,
effective prevention program development, coalition development for community
change, cultural competency and grant making. Ms. Taylor managed the $9 million
State Incentive Grant Project for the Governor's Office for Substance Abuse Prevention.
Ms. Taylor was also the Manager of Prevention Services for Henrico County Area
Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services. She was also
responsible for the work of the "Too Smart to Start Coalition" and a Board member
of the Regional Drug Free Alliance. Currently, Ms. Taylor is the Regional Services
Manager for JBS International, Inc., managing the delivery of prevention systems
assessments, training and technical assistance for the SE region of the U.S.,
Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Alan Wartenberg,
MD, FASM, FACT is the Medical Director of Discovery House Programs, a group
of outpatient opioid treatment centers, and is Assistant Professor of Medicine,
Tufts University, Boston, MA. Dr. Wartenberg is a certified addiction medicine
specialist and is a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He is
well known for his work with substance abuse treatment, pain medicine and maintenance
pharmacotherapy. Brenda Westberry, MS is a Chief Adult Probation
Officer for the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch . She has over 21 years experience
in the field of Criminal Justice working with key community agencies and diverse
criminal justice populations. She is also an adjunct professor in the Sociology
and Applied Sciences Department at Eastern Connecticut State University as well
as an adjunct professor at Mitchell College in the Criminal Justice Department.
Brenda is the founder and president of Westberry Consulting which specializes
in providing workshops, trainings and diverse course offerings delivered in customizable
learning modules. Donna M. White, RN, Ph.D., CS, CADAC, CARN is
the Addiction Specialist for the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Massachusetts. She
is the statewide Chairperson of the Massachusetts Nurses Association Addictions
Council and has completed her doctoral studies in Human Behavior with her dissertation
in Compassion Fatigue and Vicarious Traumatization in Healthcare Professionals.
Donna has lectured at many facilities and agencies and is a recognized leader
in the field of Addictions, Impaired Practice and Peer Assistance as well as Healthcare
Professional Stress.
James Wuelfing, BA, CPP, NRPP is owner of the
New England Center, a company dedicated to quality training and technical assistance
services. Jim specializes in community organizing, prevention, spiritual growth,
community awareness, curriculum development, peer education, stress management
and problem gambling prevention. He has trained professionals around the country
and in Europe and has been on the faculty of the New England School of Alcohol
Studies for 15 years.
